Radical-induced cationic frontal polymerisation for prepreg technology

Abstract In this study, a new type of prepreg technology has been established using dual curing system consisting 1,6-hexanediol diacrylate (HDDA) and frontally polymerisable components based on the epoxide resin. The study polymerisation HDDA revealed ( tert -butylcyclohexyl)peroxydicarbonate (BCPC) as most suitable radical thermal initiator. presence BCPC resulted in fast no cationic ring-opening reaction epoxy, which was observed by monitoring double bond epoxy group conversion real time-NIR rheology measurement. formed can subsequently be cured radical-induced frontal Effects amount polymerisation, stiffness gel, parameters mechanical properties final polymers were investigated. With 10 wt% HDDA, very good storage stability, proved during 4 months at 50 °C while still stable front obtained. Furthermore, RICFP-prepregs with different fibre contents prepared polymerised RICFP.
